New Design by Heyman Yachts – 40 ft ’Pocket Pilot House’ Cruising Yacht
This cruising yacht is built around a completely new concept. Offering a degree of comfort rarely seen in boats under 55 feet, the design is focused primarily on two things – excellent performance and handling, and a kind of easy living not usually associated with sailboats. The plans will be displayed at the Boat Show in Stockholm on 1-10 March.
The fundamental difference to other sailing yachts is that the cockpit, main cabin, galley and lower level all flow together into one huge, open space, 7 metres long and more than 3 metres wide. The cockpit is separated from the main cabin by a big glass bulkhead. The cockpit seats can be folded away, leaving room for leisurely living in port or at anchor.
40′ New Concept Cruising Yacht Design
The interior is carefully laid out to create an open, generous yacht, easy to live on board also for long periods of time. The double berth forward is full width, 1, 50 metres, all the way forward and you will sleep the right way, against the head board and the bulkhead. Reading a book in bed, there is a free sight line all the way aft, throughout the yacht.
The PPH is designed for two people to live in comfort, like in a summer cottage or a studio on the water. In addition, there is room to receive guests, or to bring grandchildren along for a summer cruise.
For a yacht so inviting, the handling is of course equally simple and safe and she will offer performance without compromise; easily driven and responsive.
The ‘Pocket Pilot House’ is 39,9 feet on deck, 42,7 feet including the bowsprit, with 11,40 m on the waterline and 4,24 m beam. Draft is 1,44 m, increasing to 2,80 m with centreboard down.
